With a new season upon us and one that I am sure will prove to be unique and challenging, it’s a good time to remind everyone about how volunteering fits into SPAC.

Our program is funded not only with the dues we pay, but just as importantly with our time. Volunteer efforts enable us to put on the races, which are amazing events for our athletes and others in our region and are a source of revenue for our club. Our club is a non-profit and it’s important for us to participate in supporting our athletes. Besides, volunteering at races is a lot of fun! Every family in the competitive program is required to volunteer a certain number of hours. Our official volunteer policy can be found here. Descriptions of volunteer positions are here.

A list of club sponsored races are here, along with a FAQ to get you started.

Volunteer registration for our first race (January 7th and 8th) is open, so feel free to sign-up for the positions you want.

We need volunteers more than ever this year. In a typical year only 60% of volunteer positions are filled by our club with the rest being filled by visiting clubs or other volunteers. Given the circumstances, we expect it will be more difficult to field those outside volunteers.

For this year in particular, there are some things to call out:
1. We have fewer races this year, but we aren’t reducing the volunteer requirement.
2. Many of our races will be on weekdays this year, plan accordingly.
3. Some positions will be modified, details TBD and likely changed as we go.
4. Boys and Girls will run on separate days, plan accordingly.

If you have any questions or ideas/feedback on how the experience can be better, don’t hesitate to email me.

Lastly, if your company does matching for time you donate, don’t forget to log your volunteer hours with your company!
