Parent Participation Overview PDF Print E-mail

Stevens Pass Alpine Club depends on the participation of its members. Becoming an active participant is the best way to understand the sport of ski racing as well as to get to know the rest of our "SPAC family".

USSA has published some great guides on the roles of parents, which are worth a few minutes to read.  There is the Parents' 10 Commandments and the Parents' Dos and Don'ts.

In addition to numerous ad hoc activities, there are three key areas where parent participation is essential:

  • Race Volunteer: Hosting a ski race requires 50-70 volunteers for each race day.  There are a wide variety of race volunteer positions available, some of which require little to no experience and others of which require certification by the USSA.   All parents are expected to volunteer to work at a race a minimum of two 8-hour days per season for each racer in our program.  Keep an eye out on the race volunteer news list and your inbox for opportunities to help out!

  • Committee Membership: there are a number of committees which have been formed to look after various aspects of SPAC.  These are generally chaired by a member of the board of directors, but the body of these committees are comprised of volunteers from the membership. If you are interested in participating in any of these committee, please contact the committee chair!

  • Board of Directors: SPAC's Board of Directors is the body which oversees the operations of the club.  The meets on a generally monthly basis, chairs the committees and is responsible for oversight of SPAC. Elections to the board are held each spring for three-year terms.  Feel free to contact any board member with questions about SPAC!
